Monaco unlikely to extend Breel Embolo’s contract

Breel Embolo’s (28) long-term future at AS Monaco has been uncertain for some time. The Swiss striker is clearly happy at the Principality club, however, his deal with Les Monégasques expires at the end of next season.

There was little clarity provided by Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro during an interview attended by Get French Football News. “Let’s see what happens this summer […] he still has a contract. He could extend or he could leave,” said Scuro, leaving both possibilities very much open.

Earlier in the season, Embolo expressed a desire to extend at Monaco, and he has since struck up a fine partnership with new striker Mika Biereth, both on and off the pitch. However, Nice-Matin understands that Monaco will not look to renew the Swiss striker’s deal, which expires at the end of next season. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that Embolo will leave this summer, as the publication points out. He remains happy at the club and therefore could stay for next season.
