According to L’Équipe, AS Monaco goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte (31) is set to join Ligue 1 rivals Montpellier as a goalkeeper merry-go-round whirs into action.
Lecomte has been at Monaco since 2019 but has failed to hold down a starting spot. In the last couple of seasons, he has gone out on loan to La Liga, and is this year playing for Espanyol. However, the French goalkeeper has recently lost his starting spot. He is now set to return from that loan and leave the Principality club on a permanent deal.
He is set to join Montpellier, where he played between 2017 and 2019. The player has already agreed to join the club, whilst an agreement between Monaco and Montpellier for his transfer is expected to be easily reached. The figure has yet to be revealed.
He will replace the outgoing Jonas Omlin, who is set to join Borussia Mönchengladbach, who in turn will lose Yann Sommer to Bayern Munich. He will replace Manuel Neuer, who has suffered a season-ending leg break.
