AS Monaco manager Adi Hütter has revealed that Eliot Matazo (21) is facing a lengthy absence after suffering a quadriceps injury during training.
The Belgium U21 international has played a very peripheral role this season, featuring in six Ligue 1 matches, but accumulating only a meagre 98 minutes of football. The arrival of Denis Zakaria in the summer has pushed the academy product further down the pecking order.
Speaking at the start of November, Hütter suggested that a departure, either on loan or permanently, was being considered for Matazo. “Sometimes the players aren’t 100% satisfied,” began Hütter in a press conference, attended by Get French Football News. “That is normal in football when you have lots of players for just one or two places. I like him a lot as a player. He is an interesting player who always trains at a high level. It is now my problem because I have lots of players for few positions. We may need to think for the future what to do with Eliot but I want to congratulate him on his attitude on a daily basis,” said the Austrian.
However, his hopes of a January move could have been dashed. As Hütter revealed on Thursday, Matazo has suffered a quadriceps injury, which could rule him out for between six and eight weeks. The Belgian midfielder could therefore be out until the end of January.
