The once-prized Lyon academy product, Willem Geubbels, who left for a big money transfer to Monaco may be on the move again. According to reports from L’Équipe, the former French youth international is in advanced negotiations with Charleroi.
It seems the club could agree to let him go without any compensation, but with a percentage on resale. It was also reported that three other clubs are interested in the player if things do not advance with the Belgium club.
Geubbels, as a player, was one of France’s brightest young stars while with Lyon. He became the first player born in the 21st century to appear in not only Ligue 1 but the Europa League. However, since his arrival at Monaco, he struggled to find playing time and was eventually loaned out to Nantes where he only managed to find the back of the net twice.
Still only 21-years-old, he has plenty of time to develop. Charleroi, although a very good team, should give him a better chance at finding a starting role, or at a minimum more time on the pitch in a very good league.
