Earlier in the week, it was confirmed that former Sevilla sporting director Monchi had left his role at Premier League side Aston Villa – he has since been replaced by ex-Real Sociedad transfer guru Roberto Olabe.
Since 2000, Monchi had spent 21 of 23 years at Sevilla prior to leaving for Aston Villa, so it is only naturally that he has been linked with a return to the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan. However, he has revealed that he is not considering this possibility at this stage, as per MD.
“Thinking about what may happen beyond can be distracting and much less with a club that I love almost like San Fernando. Sevilla has a magnificent sporting director and a coach who understand what Sevilla is.
“Anything I say about Sevilla will have a lot of repercussions and anything I say would be unfair, inappropriate, out of disrespect for Sevilla and me.”

Monchi, who is still employed by Aston Villa’s parent company V Sports, revealed that he has kept up with all of Sevilla’s games thus far, as he gave his assessment on the performances of Matias Almeyda’s side in the opening six matchdays.
“I’ve seen all the games as is natural and I think they have more football than points. Without going any further with Villarreal I think they deserved much more, with Getafe they didn’t deserve to lose, with Athletic they deserved much more too.”
Sevilla already have a sporting director in place, that being Antonio Cordón – who replaced Victor Orta earlier this year. This would indicate that there is no space currently for Monchi to make a return, but if one does open up in the coming months, it would be no surprise to see him back at Los Nervionenses sooner rather than later.
