Monsalve was a surprise return to Grêmio training on Tuesday at CT Luiz Carvalho, only 15 days after his lay-off. He had been expected to be sidelined for around three months.
The club said in a 7 January statement that he had an exacerbation of a right ankle ligament injury from the end of 2025, causing instability in the joint.
After a re-evaluation, Grêmio have opted for conservative treatment rather than the planned surgery. He will train with the squad while staff monitor his response to the workload, and they expect him to cope in the coming days.
On Tuesday he joined the warm-up and possession drills led by Luís Castro. No timeframe has been set for his return to matches, with progress to be judged through training. Only the start of the session was open.
His previous appearance was on 9 November last year, a draw away to Fortaleza. He also sustained a dislocated right shoulder in 2025 and missed games.
Castro remains without Balbuena, who is recovering from muscular discomfort, and Kannemann, who has a left thigh muscle injury. Braithwaite is rehabilitating a ruptured Achilles tendon, Villasanti is recovering from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, and Pavon has a grade one ligament injury in his right knee.
