MIAMI – The FIFA Club World Cup 2025 continues with 2021 Concacaf Champions Cup winners CF Monterrey facing Borussia Dortmund in the Round of 16 on Tuesday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.
The match presents only the second-ever meeting between a German side and a team from Concacaf.
Monterrey entered the Round of 16 by securing one of the top two spots in Group E with five points and an unbeaten 1-2-0 record.
Rayados opened with a 1-1 draw against Inter Milan, followed by a hard-fought nil-nil draw against River Plate. The Regios then sealed a spot in the Knockout Stage with a dominant 4-nilwin against Urawa Red Diamonds, including spectacular long-range strikes from Nelson Deossaand Jesús Corona.
In the win against the Japanese side, Monterrey became the first non-European team to score three goals in the first half of a match at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
Monterrey will seek to progress for a third time in a Knockout Stage encounter at a Club World Cup, with the previous wins coming against Ulsan HD 3-1 in the 2012 Quarterfinals and Al Sadd 3-2 in the 2019 Quarterfinals.
Borussia Dortmund advanced to the Round of 16 after placing first in Group F with seven points and an unbeaten 2-1-0 record. The Germans first drew nil-nil against Fluminense FC, followed by a 4-3 win against Mamelodi Sundowns FC and a 1-nil triumph over Ulsan HD.
