Montpellier are in talks with Club Brugge over the signing of loanee Faitout Maouassa (24). The French left-back, who is under contract with the Belgian outfit until 2025, arrived at La Paillade last summer on a one-year deal. No permanent option was included in the loan deal. However, Montpellier would be open to retain the former Rennes player. Maouassa has been a mainstay for the Southern club, registering four goals and five assists in 29 games, in a more advanced role upfield.
“I don’t know if we can keep him“, Michel Der Zakarian said in his pre-game post conference that Midi-Libre attended. “We’re in talks, we’ll see. Everything is still possible.” It remains to be seen whether Montpellier and Club Brugge will either agree on a second loan or on a permanent deal with their Belgian counterpart. Nevertheless, Der Zakarian would like to see Maouassa to stick around at Stade de la Mosson. “He scores goals and make his teammates score goals. He’s an efficient and perfoming player“, lauds the former Nantes head coach. Montpellier will travel to Lyon late on Sunday afternoon for matchday 34 of the Ligue 1 season.
