Montpellier have joined the race to sign Le Havre left-back Yanis Zouaoui, rivaling Nantes for the Algerian’s signature, according to L'Équipe.

Nantes had seemed well placed to secure the 28-year-old, but the fellow Ligue 2 side is now showing strong interest in his profile.

Zouaoui has one year left on his contract at Le Havre.

No formal offer is understood to have reached the Normandy club, and Montpellier are weighing up a move to beat Nantes to the Marseille-born defender.

Across the past two seasons, he made 47 Ligue 1 appearances for Le Havre.
