Laurent Nicollin, the Montpellier president, said with his brother Olivier in a club statement on Monday that the club will remain under Nicollin family control.
In a lengthy message on the club website, they set out their decision amid rumours of outside investment and suggestions their 50-year stewardship was nearing an end.
They said they had examined every option to secure the club’s future and stability before deciding their story with MHSC is not finished.
They also expressed their attachment to Montpellier and the club’s identity, founded 52 years ago in 1974 by their father, Louis Nicollin, and acknowledged that some choices should probably have been different.
Set against a difficult backdrop of relegation to Ligue 2, falling TV rights and the scrapping of a new stadium project, the family say they aim to preserve MHSC’s independence, identity and local roots, while remaining open to partners who share their vision, values and connection to the area.
