Monza are a Serie A club for the first time in their history after an incredible promotion play-off victory over Pisa on Sunday (6-4 on aggregate).
The Biancorossi, who are owned by controversial businessman and former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi, took a 2-1 lead into the second leg at the Arena Garibaldi.
Early goals from Ernesto Torregrossa and Hjörtur Hermannsson put Pisa in control of the tie, but the visitors regained the advantage via strikes by José Machín and Christian Gytkjær.
Giuseppe Mastinu scored in the 90th minute to give Pisa a 3-2 lead on the night and send the game into extra time.
However Monza regained their composure and Luca Marrone and Gytkjær gave them an unassailable lead despite to the dismissal of goalkeeper Eugenio Lamanna just before half time in extra time.
It’s only taken 110 years, but Monza are now part of the top flight of Italian football.
