Alvaro Morata has reassured AC Milan fans that he came off during the second half of the win against Lecce as a precaution after feeling slight pain.

Milan moved top of the Serie A table for the time being as they brushed aside Lecce 3-0 at San Siro thanks to three goals in five first-half minutes, and Morata got the ball rolling with a lovely header from a Theo Hernandez free-kick.

The Spaniard had been a doubt to start the game due to bursitis – which is an inflammation of the joints – and 10 minutes into the second half his race was run as he made way for Ruben Loftus-Cheek, appearing to be in some pain.

Morata spoke to Sky straight after the game and he was asked about his condition amid the worries that he suffered some kind of injury, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

How are you feeling physically?

“I’m fine, I just have a little pain. I haven’t been on preseason tour, I haven’t trained much and that’s normal. Now I’m starting to feel good, it’s just a precaution.”

How do you get along with Abraham?

“Very good, I’ve known him for many years, we were together at Chelsea. Very strong player, he can give much more, he needs to get into the mechanisms. I get along well with everyone.”

You got another goal…

“I’m very happy, I thought it wasn’t an assist from Theo because he doesn’t look for me much (laughs). I’m very happy, we’re on the right track.”

How is this bursitis?

“You know that I don’t know how to spell it yet? I’m making myself available to the team, I’m happy to be here. A complicated start but we’re on the right track.”
