Former Inter President Massimo Moratti is reportedly planning a return to the world of football, as he is in talks to buy out Spal, which in turn could affect A$AP Rocky’s Tranmere Rovers takeover.
The 79-year-old magnate was following in the footsteps of his father, Angelo, by becoming President of the club from 1995 to 2013, when he sold the shares to Erick Thohir.
He remained as a minority shareholder and honorary president until cutting ties completely in 2016.
According to multiple reports including La Nuova Ferrara newspaper and Calciomercato.com, Moratti is now ready to step back into the world of Calcio.
He is said to be part of a group negotiating to purchase Spal from American investor and former Donald Trump lawyer Joe Tacopina.
Spal are in Serie C, the third division of Italian football, and were last in Serie A from 2017 to 2020.
They are in penultimate place in the Girone B table with just eight points from 12 rounds.
Tacopina and his associate rapper A$AP Rocky are reportedly in talks to buy up English League Two side Tranmere Rovers by the end of December 2024.
However, that hit problems when a key investor pulled out, representing 30 per cent of the funds.
With that in mind, Tacopina needs to sell Spal and Moratti has just raked in €600m by selling 40 per cent of his oil refinery operation, Saras.
