Despite Manchester United getting off to a turbulent start in 2026/2027, Kobbie Mainoo has continued to be one shining light.

The Carrington graduate has started the last four matches across all competitions and been a standout performer in each of them.

Even when United were slumping to a 1-0 Manchester derby defeat on Sunday, Mainoo was perhaps the only one undeniably doing his bit to try and turn the tide throughout the encounter.

He ended up being United’s highest-rated player on Fotmob (8.0), which didn’t come as a surprise after his efforts in the middle of the park.

As per StatmanDave, Mainoo, in comparison to his teammates, completed the most touches (83), successful passes (65), defensive contributions (13), take-ons (three) and chances created (three), as well as the second-most line-breaking passes (11).

TNT Sports has also shared a remarkable statistic which claims the 21-year-old has completed more dribbles than any other midfielder in the top flight since the term got underway.

Now that Mainoo has once again cemented his starting spot for the foreseeable future, fans are pondering who will partner him long-term in United’s most high-stakes fixtures when all midfielders are fit.

Youri Tielemans has been preferred in recent weeks, but Carlos Baleba is well thought of amongst United chiefs, and they didn’t shell out £65 million to have him watching on from the bench.

In the meantime, Andrey Santos may return to the starting line-up tomorrow night when the Reds host Brighton and Hove Albion for their Carabao Cup opener at Old Trafford.
