Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich emerged from Saturday’s league fixture with still more injury concerns. Japanese defender Hiroki Ito looks to be added to the long list of unavailable players after incurring an injury in their 3-2 home win over St. Pauli. Ito came on for Raphäel Guerreiro in the 58th minute, yet was unable to complete the match.

A foot injury forced the 25-year-old off in the 88th minute. Both FCB sporting director Christoph Freund and head coach Vincent Kompany confirmed that Ito re-aggravated the injury that kept him out for much of the year. After signing in the summer from VfB Stuttgart, Ito only made his debut for the record champions last month.

A €23.5m purchase, Ito still only has eight appearances (three league starts) to his credit. At no point has the 21-times-capped Samurai international gone the full 90 minutes for the German giants. Both Freund and Kompany promised a more precise diagnosis tomorrow.

It’s his foot,” Freund told Sky Germany. It’s tough. The lad is in a lot of pain.

He felt the same foot that he had problems with this season,” Kompany added. “It’s not great for us. He’ll be examined. It’s too early for a definitive statement.
