Barcelona’s buy option for Marcus Rashford reportedly expired in March without the club activating a permanent deal.
That’s according to Catalan-based journalist Nil Sola, who says that the La Liga giants are now looking to open talks over new terms.

He claims that Barcelona will try to negotiate a lower fee for Rashford, which Manchester United are certain to reject, having already privately conceded that the £26 million they were asking for was too low in the first place.
Additionally, the Blaugrana may ask to take the 28-year-old on loan for another season. Again, United are uninterested in such a proposition, as they want to cash in on their academy graduate this year while his stocks are high.

Sola adds that as things stand, the prospect of Rashford continuing with Barcelona beyond his loan spell is ‘more likely no than yes’.
It goes without saying that such developments pose as a real spanner in the works for United’s plans.
They were awaiting the transfer being completed in two months’ time so that INEOS could then swiftly start reinvesting the funds on replacement attackers, with it already common knowledge that Rashford is highly unlikely to revive his Red Devils career, even if he returns to Carrington for pre-season.
Should that be the case, he would then work with club chiefs to identify a suitable move to an entirely new suitor.
However, from now until the end of the term and, potentially, mid-July, his sole focus will be on securing a World Cup spot under Thomas Tuchel and overseeing his best form for England in the United States this summer.
