Although FC Barcelona were unable to add any major trophy to their cabinet in 2024, this past year was still an unforgettable one for several Blaugrana players.
One such player would definitely be the young winger Lamine Yamal, who won the UEFA EURO 2024 with his Spanish national team, and also got several individual prizes at the end of the year.
Another player who made a massive leap in quality and importance in the last year was the €70m-rated Spanish defender Pau Cubarsí, who, like Yamal, also established himself as a fixed starter in this Barcelona team, and continued to excel despite playing against some of the biggest teams in Europe at a young age of 17 years.
But the new year is going to be even more exciting for the defender, and as SPORT has reported, he can reach another major milestone in his very next match.
Currently, the youngster has 49 appearances to his name with Barcelona. If he plays in the upcoming Copa del Rey tie against Barbastro, he will reach 50 games with the Blaugrana club. If Flick decides to rest him for this cup game, he will reach this number in the upcoming game against Athletic Club in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final in Saudi Arabia.
Similarly, if he plays in Saudi Arabia, he will also make his debut in the Spanish Super Cup, as it is one of the competitions in which he has not yet played. Of his 49 appearances up to now, 38 have come in La Liga, 9 in the UEFA Champions League, and 2 in Copa del Rey.
In January, he will also celebrate his one-year anniversary of making his debut with the first team. He reached this milestone on 18th January 2024, as Xavi subbed him on for Andreas Christensen for the match against Unionistas, and Cubarsí marked this debut with an assist that was finished by Jules Kounde.
