It would seem that Nathan Ake is the player most likely to leave Manchester City in January. Ake has been a bit-part player for Pep Guardiola’s side so far this season. With a World Cup on the horizon, Ake needs to be playing regularly to hold his place in the Dutch squad for what lies ahead this summer. It is unlikely that Ake will force his way into the City squad on a regular basis. Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol, John Stones and Abdukodir Khusanov look to be ahead of Ake in the pecking order in City’s defence.
It has now been reported by Jack Gaughan for the Daily Mail that Nathan Ake is frustrated by his lack of regular football at Manchester City this season. It almost seems certain that Ake will leave City during the January transfer window.
Jack Gaughan has reported that Nathan Ake is frustrated with his lack of opportunities at City this season. Furthermore, Gaughan reports that Nathan Ake’s injury issues over the past 18 months have seen him drop down the pecking order in Pep Guardiola’s squad. Gaughan adds that Nathan Ake has a strong relationship with Pep Guardiola. If Ake decides to leave City in January it is highly unlikely that Pep Guardiola or Manchester City will stand in his way if he seeks regular first-team football.

As it stands currently, it seems that Nathan Ake is likely to leave City in January. He needs to be playing regularly to ensure he travels to next year’s World Cup. Ake is also good enough to play at a high level. It is just unfortunate for the Dutch international that City are covered for centre-backs. He can’t force his way into the City first-team regularly.
A move for Nathan Ake does make sense. He could leave City and get the first-team football that he craves. It would also free up space in Manchester City’s squad for a potential signing in January. So there is merit to Ake leaving City in just over a month.
All indications are that Nathan Ake is likely to leave City in the near future. That is probably the best move for him, and his World Cup hopes based on how this season has unfolded for the ever-reliabe defender.
