As Jamal Musiala’s comeback draws closer, sporting director Christoph Freund has made a clear statement on the international’s return.
After months of intensive rehab and individual sessions, Jamal Musiala is back in the thick of things at Säbener Straße. Christoph Freund told tz: „Jamal is training with the team again and will gradually get playing time. A return in January is more than realistic.“
The 22-year-old is highly motivated and even felt ready for action in December. Freund praised Musiala’s attitude: „You can see how hard he’s working to get back on the pitch. He simply loves soccer, the team routine and the dressing room. It’s a joy to see.“
Musiala had already spoken out himself shortly after the turn of the year. During a fan club visit to Taubenbach, he revealed that the first test match of the new year would probably come too soon for him. According to Sky reporter Kerry Hau, Musiala said: „In the coming weeks“, however, he wanted to be ready for action again. At the same time, he emphasised: „It’s not just my decision. If it was my decision, I would have played last month. We’re just making sure that I come in well and that I’m not worried about my foot or other things.“

The attacking player suffered a complicated fracture in his fibula and a dislocation in his ankle during the Club World Cup in the summer. The road back was long, marked by rehab, diagnostics and rebuilding work – always in close coordination with Bayern’s medical team. Musiala has been partially integrated back into team training since December. He used the turn of the year for extra shifts: he completed individual sessions on the pitch even before the official start of training.
Planning for his return is now in full swing, with the club focusing on a gradual increase in workload with the aim of getting Musiala in shape in time for the hot phase of the season. The first brief appearances are now planned for January, with larger game parts to follow in February.
