Kicker and the local Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung are concurrently reporting that VfL Wolfsburg striker Jonas Wind has incurred a potentially serious thigh injury. The Danish striker, according to both publications, will definitely be unavailable for this weekend’s forthcoming Bundesliga fixture against Eintracht Frankfurt. The two sources also note that Wind is undergoing a battery of medical examinations to determine how long he will be out. 

The news concerning Wind further compounds Wolfsburg’s current crisis. The Lower Saxon Autstädter enter a busy last few weeks of the calendar year without a head coach or sporting director. Over the weekend, Wolfsburg’s attempts to recruit Hoffenheim’s Andreas Schicker to fill the vacant sporting director role officially failed.

Under different circumstances, the news concerning Wind (who has still not scored for Wolfsburg this season) may not be such a catastrophic blow. Kicker nevertheless notes that Wind’s Danish compatriot Adam Daghi (who has scored twice for the Wolves this year) may be sidelined indefinitely with adductor issues.

The only attacker besides Daghim who has scored for die Wölfe, Mohamed Amoura, will soon be reporting for Africa Cup of Nations duty with Algeria. The 25-year-old is known to want out at Wolfsburg and could potentially be on the move in the January transfer window. 

Twenty-year-old striker Dzenan Pejcinovic did score a hat-trick in Wolfsburg’s opening round Pokal victory and has also enjoyed some success for the Germany U21s, yet still awaits his first Bundesliga goal.
