Moretto: Pioli ‘one step away’ from new club – why Milan are involved

Even before Stefano Pioli left AC Milan officially, there were questions about his next step in coaching, and recently, it has seemed like he could move to the Middle East where an interested party is awaiting.

The Pioli debacle lasted far too long last season. On several occasions, the Italian coach was one game away from being sacked, and a decision did not arrive until the season’s conclusion. At this point, the situation had been ongoing for more than half of the season.

For Pioli, though, he did not move on straight away, even though there was heavy interest in his signature from a few Serie A clubs. Given his contract at Milan did not naturally expire, he is still being paid by the Rossoneri, meaning he could afford this break.

This is not a new thing in management, though, and when managers are sacked, they are sometimes kept on their contract until they move to a new team and this has been the case with the sacking of the 58-year-old.

As Matteo Moretto reports, Pioli is now ‘one step away’ from joining Al-Nassr with negotiations in the final stages. Furthermore, the parties are ‘finalising all the details of the agreement’. This follows an earlier report from the journalist (via Milan News) stating that the coach needed to terminate his contract with the Diavolo, so this latest report suggests that has been done, or nearly done.
