In Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, Manchester United signed forwards who were used to being key men at Wolverhampton Wanderers and Brentford respectively.
Both Cunha and Mbeumo have added much-needed decisiveness and character to United’s attack, remaining unfazed by the responsibility of playing for the Premier League giants.
Now, United are hoping to sign an Englishman who is impressively leading Aston Villa’s frontline under Unai Emery.
According to Fichajes, Manchester United have identified Morgan Rogers as an “ideal player” to bolster their attack in the summer.
Rogers has become one of the first names on Emery’s teamsheet and has made his way into Thomas Tuchel’s England squad with his imposing physical presence and vision.
The robust attacking midfielder is difficult to dispossess and has the ferocious ball-striking ability to make a difference on his own.
Last year, former Arsenal sensation Theo Walcott compared Rogers to Cristiano Ronaldo.
He said on BBC’s Match of the Day: “You think of Ronaldo and how, if you give them time and space on the ball when they shoot from distance, they are able to manipulate the ball the way they want to. Well, Rogers is able to do that.”
The Spanish outlet claims that a plan is already in place at Old Trafford to make a high-profile signing.
However, Villa are in a strong negotiating position, having renewed Rogers’ contract until 2031 in November of last year.
It is believed the Birmingham outfit would only sanction a transfer for a fee in the region of €100 million.
Given United’s priority is to revamp their midfield in the summer, it is difficult to imagine INEOS committing to such a figure for another attacker. However, if Bruno Fernandes decides to leave, the club’s hierarchy could be compelled to shift their focus.
