A Moroccan lawyer has warned of legal action if Senegal go ahead with plans to display their Africa Cup of Nations trophy at the Stade de France during Saturday’s friendly against Peru.
The lawyer said in a post on X that he had issued formal notices to the Stade de France operator and GL Events, warning they could be held directly liable if they assist a ceremony based on a revoked title.
In a final decision on 17 March 2026, the CAF Appeals Jury re-awarded the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title to Morocco. The Senegalese federation lodged an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport on Wednesday and still intends to stage celebrations in Saint-Denis.
The notices state that, without a suspensive CAS ruling, any trophy display would constitute title usurpation and an unlawful disturbance, and that damages would be pursued under article 1240 of the Civil Code.
He also reserved the right to seek an urgent court order to place the trophy under judicial sequestration, in the custody of a judicial officer, rendering it temporarily unavailable while a decision is taken.
