A comic moment lit up the derby at Alvalade as Fredrik Aursnes mimicked Morten Hjulmand after the Sporting midfielder was booked.
With Benfica already 1-0 up in the first half, referee João Pinheiro cautioned Hjulmand, prompting animated protests. According to Glorioso 1904, images showed Aursnes first applauding the call, then raising his arms to copy the Dane in apparent irony.
The team led by José Mourinho won 2-0, Andreas Schjelderup scoring on 27 minutes and Rafa Silva adding a clincher at 90+3'.
Aursnes, valued at 17 million euros, has made 45 appearances for Benfica this season, 24 in the league, 14 in the Champions League, four in the Taça de Portugal, two in the Taça da Liga and one in the Supertaça. Across 3,738 minutes, the Norwegian has scored four goals and provided eight assists.
The result lifted Benfica provisionally into second in Liga Portugal Betclic on 72 points. Sporting can reclaim the spot, as they have a game in hand.
