A flood of trophies despite minimal commitment – some soccer careers tend to run in the background. A curious ranking puts the spotlight on several ex-Bayern keepers.
Ron-Thorben Hoffmann was once under contract with FC Bayern and now keeps goal for Eintracht Braunschweig, where he has made 76 appearances since leaving Munich in 2022. What many people don’t know is that the 26-year-old holds a European record. He tops the list of players with the most titles per appearance – with an astonishing figure.
During his time at FC Bayern, Hoffmann never played in a competitive match for the professionals. Despite this, he collected a total of eleven titles during this period – including four championships, two DFB Cup victories and even the Champions League triumph as part of the six-tuple year 2020. The keeper usually sat on the bench as third or fourth goalkeeper or was part of the extended squad.
Hoffmann is not the only one to appear in the ranking: Sven Scheuer (3rd place), Tom Starke (7th place), Bernd Dreher (8th place) and Stefan Wessels (10th place) also made it into the top ten. All of them former FC Bayern keepers. Another prominent example is Andrij Lunin (6th place) from Real Madrid. The entire top 10 consists exclusively of goalkeepers.

The first outfield player only appears in 11th place: Presnel Kimpembe, formerly with Paris Saint-Germain, is there with an average of 9.64 games per title. Another former Munich player follows shortly behind: Tanguy Nianzou, now under contract with Sevilla FC. The Frenchman was active in Munich for two years, became champion twice and has a total of 28 appearances in nine titles – an average of 10.56 games per title.
Incidentally, Hoffmann was not only allowed to celebrate with the professionals. He also won the Bavarian regional league (2019) and the 3rd division (2020) with FC Bayern’s second team – this time even as a regular keeper on the pitch.
