“We need to regenerate the group, bring in new heads so you’re not always playing for survival. The President (Waldemar Kita) and the hierarchy are aware that they need to regenerate the group and bring in fresh blood,” reacted Antoine Kombouaré after FC Nantes’ final-day defeat to AS Monaco. In the post-match press conference, attended by Get French Football News, the Canaris manager did not hide his desire to overhaul the current squad and L’Équipe report that very few players’ futures are guaranteed at the club.
As well as Alban Lafont, whose time at the club has seemingly come to an end, with Kombouaré stating that it is “time for him to leave”, many other first-team players could leave, such as Mostafa Mohamed, who has not scored a goal from open play since 1st September 2023.
Moussa Sissoko to stay at Nantes?
There are very few players that Nantes want to keep. Jean-Charles Castelletto, Nathan Zézé, Nicolas Pallois, Matthis Abline, Moses Simon, Ignatius Ganaga, Tino Kadewere and Bénie Traoré are the only ones considered “untouchable” although Stade Rennais could decide to trigger their buy-back option on Abline.
Whilst L’Équipe understand that Moussa Sissoko is set to depart at the end of his contract, Ouest-France understand that a contract extension has been offered to the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder. Samuel Moutoussamy, however, will leave the club upon the expiry of his contract this summer. Pedro Chirivella could also leave the club, as could Douglas Augusto should a reasonable offer be received.
It seems that next year’s Nantes side will bear little resemblance to the one that narrowly secured their safety in Ligue 1 this season.
