According to Voetbal International, Motherwell striker Kevin van Veen is close to joining FC Groningen. The 32-year-old has verbally agreed to join the club. However, Groningen are yet to reach a final agreement with Motherwell. The recently relegated Dutch side are hoping to get the deal done very soon.
Kevin van Veen has just experienced the best season in his career. The former Scunthorpe United and Northampton Town striker earned a spot in the Scottish Premiership team of the season after scoring 25 goals in 36 appearances for Motherwell. The Dutchman fell two goals short of Celtic’s Kyogo Furuhashi for the Scottish Premiership top scorer title.
FC Groningen suffered their first relegation from the Eredivisie in 23 years last season. Already, the old home of Arjen Robben has started to restock for next season. In recent weeks Groningen have made the signings of Michael Verrips, Hidde Jurjus and Daniël Beukers as they look to shoot straight back up to the top flight. Kevin van Veen could be a superb signing as they search for a proven goalscorer.
