Lucas Moura has stated that Tottenham’s aim is to secure the Europa League title after they claimed a 3-0 win over LASK in their opening game in the competition.

Jose Mourinho made a number of changes for Thursday’s clash, including leaving star man Harry Kane on the bench and handing starts to both Carlos Vinicius and Gareth Bale, the latter figure having made a cameo appearance in the 3-3 draw with West Ham on Sunday.

The two debutants were involved in all three goals on the night, striker Vinicius teeing up Lucas Moura after 18 minutes for Spurs’ first, the  Brazilian attacker duly slotting home. It was then Bale’s turn to get involved soon after, the Welshman seeing his low cross turned into the net by LASK defender Andres Andrade.

Mourinho’s men wrapped up victory with just six minutes remaining as Vinicius once again played the role of provider, setting up Heung-Min Son to continue his fine run of form. That victory makes it a comfortable start to proceedings for the North London club in Europe and goalscorer Moura revealed that his side want to go all the way in the competition with “winner” Jose Mourinho.

“It is the best way to start the competition. Of course we need to improve some things but 3-0 at home is a good result,” Moura told BT Sport.

“We missed a lot of opportunities and gave some space for them but I think we are solid.

“It is always good to score, especially for strikers. It is my job. If I help my team-mates I am happy, if I can score it is even better.

“I know Jose Mourinho is a winner and wants to win a trophy here. I think the squad deserves a trophy.

”I am very positive for the season but let’s do it step by step. We will fight for it because I think the fans and the club deserve it.”

Tottenham are away to winless Burnley in the Premier League on Monday.
