Wesley Sneijder says he has received thousands of death threats from Argentina after criticising Gianluca Prestianni’s behaviour during Benfica’s match with Real Madrid, where Vinícius Júnior accused the winger of racism.

Speaking on Ziggo Sport, the former José Mourinho pupil at Inter said he would not tolerate such conduct in his own team, adding the teenager appeared visibly anxious. He felt the player knew he had made a serious mistake and believed consequences would follow, referencing a provisional UEFA suspension.

He outlined the backlash, stating he received 4,000 death threats from Argentina last week after expressing his view, with social media flooded with hostile messages.

Sneijder also defended freedom of expression, saying everyone is entitled to an opinion, including those who threatened him, and that his view was based on what he saw.

This season for Benfica, Prestianni, valued at 12 million euros, has played 30 times, 18 in Liga Portugal Betclic, 7 in the Champions League, 2 in the Taça de Portugal, 2 in the Taça da Liga and 1 in the Supertaça. Across 1,460 minutes he has 2 goals and 1 assist.
