Mourinho returns to Real Madrid on three-year deal | OneFootball

José Mourinho has been confirmed as Real Madrid’s new manager, returning 13 years on from his last spell in charge of Los Blancos.

The 63-year-old has signed on a three-year contract after departing Portuguese side Benfica, where former Fulham boss is expected to go following his departure by mutual consent at the end of the season.

Mourinho won the La Liga title and Supercopa de Espana in the 2011/12 campaign, as well as the Copa del Rey the previous campaign, between 2010 and 2013, when he departed the club on his own terms.

Madrid president Florentino Perez promised fans that their former manager would be brought back to the Santiago Bernabeu prior to winning the election race to retain his position within the club’s hierarchy.

The elections somewhat delayed Mourinho’s arrival back in the Spanish capital, but the rumor has now been made official in a statement by the Spanish giants.

It read: “The Board of Directors of Real Madrid CF, meeting today Thursday, June 11th, and chaired by Florentino Perez, has agreed to appoint Jose Mourinho as first team coach for the next three seasons, until June 30th, 2029.”

A clause in his contract at Benfica allowed Mourinho to leave early, within 10 days of the Liga Portugal season ending, for a fee of roughly £2.5m, and is tasked with making Madrid’s trophyless season a distant memory for their supporters.
