Mourinho has reportedly asked Real Madrid's scouting department to target Morten Hjulmand, a move that could aid Benfica in 2026/27, according to COPE.
The Benfica coach's switch to Madrid remains in limbo amid club elections, and his exit has not yet been communicated to president Rui Costa. He is expected to travel to the Spanish capital this week.
The plan centres on taking Sporting's captain to Spain, removing him from Benfica's eternal rivals.
The report also says the 63-year-old wants to bring his own backroom team. He is said to have requested the integration of a former Real Madrid player as an assistant, a request put to president Florentino Pérez.
This season Hjulmand, valued at 45 million euros, has played 44 matches for Sporting, 27 in Liga Portugal Betclic, 10 in the Champions League, five in the Taça de Portugal, one in the Taça da Liga and one in the Supertaça. Across 3,913 minutes he has three goals and six assists.
