José Mourinho is reported to have a date to return to Real Madrid despite no official confirmation of any Benfica exit, and attention is already turning to potential reinforcements, with Rodri linked.
The Sun reports that Rodri is viewed as a leading Mourinho target for the summer, with the Spain international’s Manchester City contract entering its final year and renewal talks currently on hold.
The report also noted that the midfielder recently suggested he would find it hard to turn down the world’s leading clubs, Madrid included, despite his past at Atlético de Madrid.
The 2024 Ballon d’Or winner has scored two goals in 32 appearances for City this season. The defensive midfielder remains central to Pep Guardiola’s side, who are still in the Premier League race after lifting the League Cup and the FA Cup.
Meanwhile, Mourinho is understood to be close to a Madrid agreement through 2028, with a one-year option. That stands at odds with his recent claim in Amoreira that there was a 99% chance he would stay at Benfica.
