José Mourinho has highlighted concerns over the Santa Clara pitch before Benfica’s visit, with the league’s pitch ratings supporting his view.

According to Record, people who have been on the surface this season say it lifts easily, creating holes that pose a danger to players.

Santa Clara’s ground sits 18th in the Liga Portugal Betclic assessment with an average of 6.04 across 11 matches, including games against Porto and Sporting.

By contrast, Estádio da Luz leads on 10 from 11, followed by José Alvalade on 9.95 from 10 and Cidade de Barcelos on 9.8 from 10. Alverca on 6.41 from 11 and AFS SAD on 6.32 from 11 still rate higher than the Azorean club’s pitch.

Benfica face the hosts on Friday, 13 February, in the 22nd round of Liga Portugal Betclic, with kick-off at 18:30 at Estádio de São Miguel. Petit is the home coach.
