Blackburn Rovers will be without Yuki Ohashi for at least several weeks after the striker suffered a hamstring injury in Tuesday’s defeat by Sheffield United.

Ohashi was forced off after just 10 minutes at Bramall Lane and the Japanese forward is now facing a spell on the sidelines, with Mowbray unable to put an exact timeframe on his recovery.

“He’s damaged his hamstring, which was pretty obvious, I think,” Mowbray told BBC Radio Lancashire.

“10 minutes in, it was a real blow to us all. He is a lad who never gets injured and yet with one of his first sprints, he pulls his hamstring chasing the ball down.

“We will be without him for a few weeks, minimum, and let’s see how he recovers. Fingers crossed he will be a quick healer and back before too long.”

Ohashi’s injury adds to Rovers’ problems, with Mathias Jorgensen also sidelined with a hamstring issue.

Mowbray also provided an update on the rest of his squad ahead of the weekend, with Yuri Ribeiro potentially available.

“Yuri is alright,” he said.

“He did a little bit on the grass today. He took a knock against Wolves and was feeling a lot of discomfort. I didn’t feel it was worth taking any risks the other night.

“He didn’t join in with everyone today but if he does tomorrow, which is the plan, he will be ok for the weekend.”

Harry Pickering could feature, while Scott Wharton remains unavailable despite returning to training.

“There is nobody back for this weekend,” Mowbray added. “Scott Wharton has been training but he won’t be ready. He needs a couple of weeks or an Under-21 game to give him the confidence that his body is ready to compete in a game.

“It won’t be far away from the same squad. Pickering picked up a small strain at half-time and came off. We’ll have to see with him but that’s very minor.”
