Paris Saint-Germain edged Bayern Munich 5-4 in a Champions League semi-final first leg at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday, a breathless night that mixed celebration, respect and meticulous planning, with attention already turning to next Wednesday’s return in Munich at 21:00.

According to L'Équipe, the mood in the corridors was light as Luis Enrique joked with Vincent Kompany, suspended and watching from the stands. Vitinha paused mid-interview to answer a call from his wife, while a staffer dubbed the spectacle Mozart versus Beethoven. The midfielder said it was the best match of his life.

In the dressing room, Ousmane Dembélé received the customary MVP chants and Nasser al-Khelaïfi congratulated players and staff one by one. Luis Enrique’s plan also set Dembélé and Vitinha to track Aleksandar Pavlovic and Kimmich, with Warren Zaïre-Emery rehearsed on the left at Angers.

The contest broadly matched PSG’s analysis that Bayern start at full tilt then fade after around 20 minutes and after the break. Players were told to stay calm. Khvitcha Kvaratskhelia levelled on 24 for 1-1, Joao Neves made it 2-1 on 33, and two more Paris goals between 56 and 58 stretched it to 5-2.

Staff chose not to dwell on the three-minute wobble from 5-2 to 5-4. Joshua Kimmich’s 65th-minute set piece sparked the comeback and, in open play, little had hinted at 5-3 before that, a shift the club noted. With a one-goal lead, vigilance is essential in Bavaria.

The European champions left believing another final remains within reach.
