São Paulo prosecutor Cássio Conserino has opened a fresh strand of a criminal inquiry into former Corinthians officials, probing the release of R$ 1,278,798.10 allegedly without supporting documents under Duílio Monteiro Alves.
According to Globo.com, the sum involves expense advances requested by Denilson Grillo, known as Carioca, Duílio’s driver, paid between January 2021 and December 2023.
The order states the releases allegedly lacked paperwork and were agreed by the finance department. Conserino has summoned ex-finance chief Wesley Melo and ex-manager Roberto Gavioli to testify on 18 March, and asked the club to set out Denilson’s posts and salaries.
Two businessmen were also added to the case amid signs of fake or inflated invoices used to justify irregular club spending. They will testify.
Spending under Duílio is under scrutiny after revelations the club paid for personal items such as beer, cigarettes and erectile dysfunction medication, with receipts dated 26 September to 31 October 2023.
That report bears Denilson’s signature. He said he did not recognise the document or signature, yet the same signature appears in a filing at São Paulo’s commercial registry.
The probe has already produced charges against Andrés Sanchez for embezzlement, money laundering and tax crimes over corporate card use, and Duílio has also been charged with embezzlement for similar spending.
Duílio, Melo, Gavioli and Denilson were contacted for comment but had not responded at publication. This story will be updated if they reply.
