England’s Under-21s extended their flawless Euro 2027 qualifying run with a hard-earned 2-0 win over the Republic of Ireland in grim, swirling weather at St Andrew’s.
Chances were scarce in a scrappy first half, though England should have gone ahead when Tyrique George was brought down in the box.
DivinMubama stepped up but saw his spot-kick stopped. Jamie Gittens later tested the keeper with a header, but the conditions made flowing football nearly impossible.
After the interval, England were awarded another penalty when Lewis Hall was tripped. Mubama, undeterred by his earlier miss, sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to finally break the deadlock.
Ireland pushed back and Jacob Devaney blasted over from a promising opening, but England sealed it late on when George smashed in a sharp finish to settle the nerves.
The result keeps England second in Group D on 12 points, one behind Slovakia but with a game in hand, while Ireland remain third.
