Sunderland captain Granit Xhaka joins up with Switzerland this week, and head coach Murat Yakin is not overly concerned about his fitness after a recent ankle problem.
According to Blick, Yakin said he is in close contact with Xhaka and is not worried about him, adding they will decide together how long he plays during the friendlies.
Xhaka missed five consecutive matches with an ankle injury, then returned to start Sunderland’s last two games, including Sunday’s 2-1 win over Newcastle United at St James’ Park.
Switzerland face Germany on Friday evening before travelling to Norway for a match on Tuesday.
If he features in both, Xhaka would reach 145 senior caps. The 33-year-old debuted in 2011, has worn the armband for eight years and has scored 16 goals.
Before the Tyne-Wear derby, Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris underlined Xhaka’s impact, hailing his top-level quality and fit with club and region. He praised his commitment, influence in and out of possession, and daily standards that guide a young squad.
