USMNT midfielder Yunus Musah is expected to start for Milan against Real Madrid this evening and could be a valuable tactical key against Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

Musah has only started two games for Milan this season, but multiple sources claim he will get the nod at the Bernabeu this evening when the Rossoneri visit defending champions Real Madrid.

Sky Sport Italia and other media report that Musah was tried as a right winger in a training session on Monday, so he’s expected to push Samuel Chukwueze to the bench in Madrid.

Musah has covered several midfield roles since joining Milan from Valencia in 2023.

Ex-Milan coach Stefano Pioli sometimes used him as a right wingback in a 3-5-2 formation, but the attacking winger role is relatively uncommon for the USMNT international.

Musah has mostly played in his natural role, central midfield, under Paulo Fonseca, but his stamina and defensive attitude could be a tactical key for the Rossoneri against Real Madrid.

This, at least, is what Fonseca hopes, especially because Rafael Leao will start on the left wing. Therefore, Musah could provide more balance for the Rossoneri when the team is forced to track back.

Musah has one assist in nine competitive appearances with Milan this season.

His contract at San Siro runs out in June 2028.
