Away from everyday sporting life, Jamal Musiala appeared relaxed and humorous during a visit to the FC Bayern fan club. The 22-year-old was also asked about his favorite teammate – and his answer caused laughter in the room
„If I don’t say Phonzy, he gets angry. But that would make me happy. I can’t say Michael either, because then he would be happy,“ Musiala explained with a wink, referring to his friends Alphonso Davies and Michael Olise. The presenter picked up on the moment and suggested with a grin: „Just say Thomas Müller. That always works.“ Musiala’s answer came promptly: „Thomas Müller. Yes, exactly.“
Musiala has had a particularly close relationship with Thomas Müller over the years. The long-serving Bayern star had repeatedly supported the youngster in his early days with the professionals – yet Musiala deliberately avoided overly obvious praise when asked another question
When it came to his childhood idols, Musiala initially joked: „I’m not allowed to say Thomas Müller.“ He then became serious and mentioned two names that have shaped his footballing career: „Messi and Neymar were my two favorite players.“
Musiala has since played against both superstars himself, including in the Champions League with FC Bayern against Paris Saint-Germain – and came away victorious on each occasion. He described the personal moments after the games in a particularly impressive way. „I was nervous and I was afraid to ask them for their jerseys,“ he admitted openly. In the end, however, he overcame himself and received both jerseys. „I immediately hung them up in my room, right next to the picture of my sister.“
Did Lionel Messi and Neymar also hang up his jersey? Musiala responded with a laugh: „I hope so, but I don’t think so.“
In sporting terms, the focus at FC Bayern is now back on Musiala’s comeback. Following his serious fibula fracture in the summer, the attacking player is being carefully rebuilt. A return to match action in the course of January is considered possible, with the clear aim of being back in top form for the knockout phase of the Champions League.
