Jamal Musiala will start for Germany in their World Cup opener against debutants Curaçao after Julian Nagelsmann confirmed his selection.

According to BuLi News, the head coach has chosen the Bayern attacking midfielder amid debate over whether Deniz Undav should make the XI. Musiala was among Germany’s standout performers at the last World Cup.

Comments from Jürgen Klopp and Thomas Müller had fuelled the discussion that Undav might be a better option, but Nagelsmann has stood by his call. He said Musiala could only find rhythm with playing time, and that he would get it tomorrow.

The 23-year-old endured a difficult campaign, missing months and 10 Germany games after a serious injury sustained at the Club World Cup.

He returned to start recent friendlies against Finland and USA. Musiala has scored nine goals in 42 caps for Germany.
