Atlético Madrid head coach Diego Simeone has revealed his frustration with the actions of Rodrigo Riquelme, during the club’s latest outing.
Atléti marked their return to action earlier today, making the trip to Son Moix for a La Liga meeting with RCD Mallorca.
When all was said and done, the Rojiblancos emerged victorious, courtesy of a solitary goal on the part of summer signing Julián Alvarez.
During the 2nd-half on Sunday, though, Simeone’s troops wasted a golden opportunity to afford themselves a two-goal buffer.
This came after Rodrigo Riquelme, instead of squaring for the wide open Ángel Correa, took aim at goal, with his effort having been comfortably kept out.
Diego Simeone was spotted looking furious with Riquelme’s decision whilst on the sideline, with the Argentine tactician, in turn, having been drawn on the matter during his post-match press conference.
And Atlético’s headmaster, as cited by Mundo Deportivo, did not hesitate in making clear his frustration with his side’s midfield talent:
“You must not be selfish, you must be a teammate. It is a matter of making decisions. He decided to shoot, but that was not what he should have done. You have to play the ball to your teammate so he can finish it. Sometimes decisions, luckily, do not have to be paid for.”
