The Spain international recently spoke publicly to hint that he’d be keen to make the move to the Bernabeu, and Romano has confirmed interest from Los Blancos.
Speaking in his latest YouTube video post, Romano explained that Man City have offered Rodri a new contract as they hope to persuade him to stay at the Etihad Stadium.
However, it’s not yet clear if this will prove successful, with Romano suggesting Rodri still needs to make a final decision, while Real Madrid continue to discuss the 29-year-old as a target internally.
Providing an update on the Rodri saga, Romano said: “I want to discuss also about Rodri because I’ve been telling you before Rodri’s quotes on Real Madrid last week … that I was going to keep you updated on my information on Rodri’s future.
“The key point here is that Rodri in this moment, then we never know in football, but in this moment has two ways to decide whether he wants to stay at Manchester City and also eventually sign a new contract if he wants, or plan for a move away from Man City.
“So his statements about Real Madrid were quite strong. Obviously the appreciation from Real Madrid is there. So for sure Real Madrid internally are discussing about Rodri and is an option for Real Madrid. But at the moment there is still no bid, no direct club to club talks for Rodri.
“But what’s the point? Rodri from what I understand already has a new contract proposal into his hands from Manchester City. So Man City are offering a new contract to Rodri and they are prepared to give him an important salary.
“At the moment it’s on Rodri to decide financially, personally with his family about the project and all the rest what he wants to do – stay at Man City, or stay at Man City and sign a new contract which is already on the table, so it’s on Rodri to decide or leave Man City now or in summer 2027.”
It remains to be seen if Rodri will definitely leave, but it perhaps makes sense that MCFC already seem to be planning to bring in a successor in midfield.
City have been strongly linked with Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson by BBC Sport and others, with the talented young England international impressing a great deal this season.
It seems likely Anderson will also have other suitors, but he seems ideal to replace Rodri and BBC’s report suggests it’s Pep Guardiola’s side who are currently in pole position for his signature.
