Real Madrid have announced that after a meeting of the Board of Directors, they have made an offer of 150 million euros to Atlético Madrid for Argentinian striker Julián Alvarez.
The statement put out by the club says that Atletico thanked Real for the offer, and for keeping a strong relationship between the two Madrid clubs.
But ultimately, they have decided to reject the bid, instead referring to the existing release clause in the player’s contract, which stands at an eye-watering €500 million.
Since Florentino Pérez had announced the planned €150 million bid for an unnamed Galáctico last week after winning the leadership race to stay on as Madrid President, rumours had been circulating on who that star could be.
Reports from Fabrizio Romano and other top journalists seemed to suggest that the superstar signing was planned to be Michael Olise, although Pérez himself suggested otherwise in a press conference.
It remains to be seen whether Real Madrid will continue their pursuit of Alvarez or whether they will turn their attention to a new Galáctico star.
