Julian Nagelsmann has backed Thomas Tuchel’s criticism of photographers stationed in front of the dugouts during national anthems, saying the positioning disrupts a key moment between coaches and players.

According to BuLi News, the Germany head coach called the scene increasingly distracting and suggested changes should be considered, adding: “I don't know how much we're allowed to complain now. But I agree with Thomas Tuchel.”

“It's an emotional moment when you connect with the players during the national anthem.”

He said that link is often broken by the sheer number of photographers close to the technical area, joking about the proximity: “What's really striking here is how incredibly close it is. I always feel like that giant lens is photographing my nose hairs from just a centimeter away.”

He argued that players frequently look to the bench during the anthem and immediately afterwards, so unobstructed visual contact matters. “I believe there are better solutions.”

In the final moments before kick-off, he said the view is often blocked, adding: “There's another round of cheering, and all I see are photographers.”

His remarks echo Tuchel’s concerns and could reopen debate about balancing media access with preserving the pre-match atmosphere.
