Following Germany’s embarrassing World Cup round-of-32 exit against Paraguay on Monday, talks are underway behind the scenes to decide the future of head coach Julian Nagelsmann.
According to Bild, a three-hour meeting took place on Thursday between Nagelsmann and DFB bosses Bernd Neuendorf, Hans-Joachim Watzke, Rudi Völler and Andreas Rettig.
The German tabloid reports that the 38-year-old was offered the chance to resign two years before his contract expires, as an opportunity to “leave the situation with his head held high.”
Nagelsmann has now been given time to reflect on the decision. If he doesn't resign, the German Football Association could terminate his contract via a clause, but would then have to pay around €7 million in compensation.
A final decision on Nagelsmann’s future is expected to be made at the beginning of next week at the latest, with Jürgen Klopp still seen as the preferred successor.
