Former Portugal and Manchester United winger Nani has ended his brief retirement to sign for Kazakh side FC Aktobe, more than a year after calling time on his playing career.

The 39-year-old has agreed a one-season deal, which includes an expanded role in the club’s development programme.

FC Aktobe hope to use Nani’s experience and profile to boost both the club and the wider reputation of Kazakh football internationally.

Nani retired in December 2024 after a final stint with Estrela da Amadora, ending a career that included spells at Sporting, Manchester United, and several other European clubs.

His return to the pitch marks a surprising but high-profile addition to the Kazakh Premier League.
