Yesterday evening, what had been expected for weeks was finally made official. FC Nantes would part ways with head coach Antoine Kombouaré, a year before the end of his contract.

The search for his replacement has been ongoing, with RMC Sport reporting that for the past few weeks the former Olympique Lyonanis manager Pierre Sage had been the club’s priority target. However, with Will Still announcing his intention to leave RC Lens, Sage has become the early front runner to take over Les Sang et Or.

USL Dunkerque’s Luis Castro has impressed on a small budget with the Ligue 2 side, which has caught the attention of Nantes, but he has two years left on his contract, and Les Maritimes have no intention of letting him leave for free.

A name that is gaining traction with La Maison Jaune is Ahmed Kantari. The former Valenciennes FC manager joined Kombouaré’s coaching staff last year, and reportedly, he has internal support. At the very least, he would be an inexpensive solution when Nantes are looking to tighten their budget.
