Nantes to stick with Luis Castro after failing in Will Still approach | OneFootball

Nantes head coach Luis Castro is set to remain in the dugout for the time being, despite Les Canaris’ dip in results. Nantes have only won two Ligue 1 games out of a possible 15 and they are now level on points with bottom-placed FC Metz. On Sunday, it was reported that Castro was hanging by a thread with the former USL Dunkerque head coach no longer on speaking terms with the club’s executives.

Nantes were even scouring the market for a replacement. On Monday, Ouest-France reported that former Reims and Lens head coach Will Still was Nantes’ priority target to replace Castro. The Anglo-Belgian head coach is currently a free agent after being dismisssed from the Southampton manager job. Nevertheless, the contacts between Still and Nantes were reportedly short-lived, according to L’Equipe.

Ouest-France adds that Still entertained the possibility of joining La Maison Jaune, but he would have liked his two brothers – who work as assistant coaches in Belgium – to link up with him at Nantes. Without an agreement with Still, Nantes reportedly decided to stick with Castro until the winter break. However, the club’s executives have decided to promote the reserve’s team head coach, Stéphane Ziani, as Sporting Coordinator, which will act as a bridge between Castro and the owners.
