Lazio defender Mario Gila would triple his yearly earnings if he completes his desired transfer to Napoli.
With only one year left on his contract, the Spaniard’s future is shrouded in mystery. While he has been linked with a host of suitors in Italy and Europe, the 25-year-old’s most likely destination will be Naples, as the Partenopei have placed themselves well ahead of the competition.
Earlier this year, Gila’s Argentine agent, Alejandro Camano, had described a move to the Stadio Maradona as a personal dream. Moreover, Massimiliano Allegri, who had already tried to bring the Barcelona native to AC Milan, is set to be appointed as Napoli’s new head coach. Therefore, the stars are lining up for the centre-back to join Aurelio De Laurentiis’ club.
According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Napoli have already reached an agreement with Camano on personal terms. This includes a yearly net salary above €3 million, which would effectively triple his current wages, as the defender only earns €1 million at Lazio.
The biggest hurdle for Napoli remains finding an agreement with Lazio, who still insist on their €30 million. While this might be deemed an excessive asking price for a player running on an expiring contract, Claudio Lotito is taking into account Real Madrid’s cut. Gila’s former club is entitled to receive a 50% sell-on fee on the profit made by Lazio from the player’s sale.
Pedulla expects the two clubs to meet again this week. The discussion could also extend to Sam Beukema and Lorenzo Lucca, two Napoli misfits who could be used as bargaining chips. The Dutch defender and the Italian striker could potentially join Lazio on loan as part of the operation. On the other hand, the Partnenopei are determined to keep Rafa Marin, so he won’t be included in the deal.
